Our German Shepherd Dogs

My love of and respect for the German Shepherd Dog goes back to the third grade. Upon a recent trip to my childhood home in Pennsylvania, my mother bestowed upon me a mosaic of a German Shepherd Dog head/profile I had constructed while in the third grade. I am convinced that the popular television series Rin Tin Tin had played a major part in my love and respect for this noble and intelligent breed of dog.

I acquired my first German Shepherd, Athena, in my late teens. She was pregnant to a police dog when I got her. I kept Alicia from the litter. After high school, I left home to be employed on a Thoroughbred breeding and training farm in Ocala, Florida. I took Alicia with me. For more about the early days, see my About Me page (currently under construction).  If you are really impatient and want to view the unfinished version of "about-me", you can either click on

"me"  below

or   http://www.hinterlandgsd.com/about-me.htm

Please feel free to explore my hyperlinked dogs' pages by clicking on the blue names , either at the left or in the running paragraph below.  Each blue name is connected to each individual animal's page, with photographs and pedigree included.  I hope you enjoy my stories, photographs and comments as you walk your way through my life with the German Shepherd Dogs who have touched my heart and changed my life forever.

Maxine was the foundation bitch at Hinterland German Shepherds. She was purchased as an eight-week-old puppy as a present from my husband, Steve, in 1986. We had purchased 20-plus acres of property in rural Calaveras County, California in 1985 and decided we needed another German Shepherd for both companionship and protection for me, as my husband was frequently away on business. Alicia was in her 14th year of life when Maxine arrived on the scene. Both Alicia and I had the opportunity to school Maxine in the social graces of a dog's value, purpose, and interaction of life. With the combination of Maxine's intelligence and natural abilities and Alicia and my relationship, we did an amazing job of rearing Maxine through her adolescence. Alicia then passed on to lung metastasis.

Maxine's first two litters were by Valley Oak's Kondor of Arelee, one born in May 1989 and the other born in May 1990. From the first litter we kept two females - Roxie and Katrina. From the second litter we kept one female - Schelle.

We bred Maxine to Champion Dreamweaver's Heineken in 1991. In August, Maxine whelped her third litter. We kept one male - Boz - and one female - Hilda. We re-acquired another female - Nixie.

El Lobo de Garcia was the first stud dog we bred to a bitch that we whelped and raised at Hinterland German Shepherds. Roxie was bred to Lobo in 1992. From that litter born in September, we kept Monique.

We bred Schelle to Alex vom Nord Rasen in 1993. From Schelle's litter, born in August, we kept Ally.

We bred Nixie to Hinterland's Hofhund in 1993. We decided not to keep a puppy from Nixie's litter, born in December. However, we later re-acquired Molly.

In 1994, Katrina, from Maxine's first litter, was bred to Axl vom Camdenerland. From Katrina's litter, born in May, we kept Hetzii and Lilly P.

Maxine's last two litters were by Ben Von Thuringen. Her June 1994 litter produced one puppy - a female we kept and named Solitaire.

We bred Nixie to Alex in 1994. From Nixie's litter, born in June, we kept Autumn.

In 1994, we bred Roxie and Schelle to Gonzo. From Roxie's litter, born in September 1994, we kept Melody. From Schelle's litter, born in December 1994, we kept Lena.

From Maxine's May 1995 litter by Ben, we kept another female - Megan.

We bred Monique to Lex von Eidson in 1995. From Monique's litter, born in September, we kept Samson and Dante.

In 1995, we bred Roxie to Atreyu vom Schneeberg. From Roxie's litter, born in November, we kept Heather.

We bred Ally to Arek vom Bodenthal in 1997. From Ally's litter, born in May, we kept Annabelle and Dylan and re-acquired Chaser.

In 1997, we bred Roxie to Enzo Manepo. From Roxie's litter, born in May, we kept Chelsea.

We bred two of our Hinterland dogs, Lilly P and Boz, in 1997. From Lilly P's litter, born in March, we kept Ebony and re-acquired Gunther.

In 1997, we bred Melody to Xasko von der Roten Matter. From Melody's litter, born in February 1998, we kept Vuro.

In 1998, we bred Ally to Xasko. From Ally's litter, born in August, we kept Bonnie and Jezabelle.

In 1998, Monique was bred to Hardy vom Falltor. From Monique's litter, born in September, we kept Skidder.

Three years after Roxie's litter by Enzo, we bred Ally to Enzo. From Ally's litter, born in May 2000, we kept Katelynn and Karly.

In 2001, we bred Melody again to Xasko. From Melody's litter, born in March, we kept Scarlet.

We bred a bitch we co-owned, Gundi, to Zank vom Trienzbachtal in 2000. From Gundi's litter, born in August, we kept Aziza.

We bred Monique to Rio von der Gansebrucke in 2000. From Monique's litter, born in December, we kept Jenny.

We acquired Ziggy as an 8-week-old puppy in August, 2001. His first litter is out of Monique. See Litter Announcements page.

In 2001, we bred Chelsea and Heather to Luchs vom Waldwinkel. From Chelsea's litter, born in September, we felt obligated to keep Miles, who was born a cripple. From Heather's litter, born in October, we kept Derri, who is a pituitary dwarf.

July of 2002 found me traveling to New York to pick up my much needed and longingly awaited for new babies, Argus and Angela.  They are out of a German-bred male, VA KK1 Lbz Laius vom Moorbeck, SchH3 and Wittie vom Kirschental, HGH.  We are very excited about our new bloodstock as an addition to our existing lineage.

New additions of new lineage for 2003 include our breedings of Melody and Monique to Austrian Bundesseiger KK1 lbz Blacky vom Leipheimer Moor, Sch 3, and Hetzii to KK1 Vyck vom Haus Antverpa, Sch 3, IPO 3, PAM, TD, CD, CDX, ...  More to follow...
